  1. If Russia was serious about ending the war he would have his troops leave now and have them stop only to beg forgiveness and kiss the arse of every man, woman, and child they pass on the way.

  2. Of course “Russia” isn’t serious about ending the war … because Putin hasn’t figured out (since the early days of the invasion) how to salvage something from his catastrophic mistake. It would be political, and possibly literal, suicide for him to retreat with only losses and nothing substantial gained.

But I think that at this point, Putin has decided to hope for one thing: a harsh winter in Europe. Possibly that could change European sentiment enough for them to lift sanctions and allow Putin to claim a geopolitical victory.

Personally I very much hope that Europe has a record-breaking mild winter. May Europe enjoy a winter of sunshine while Putin’s last desperate hope dies in miserable despair!

  3. Putin’s endgame is all about money and power.

Putin is beholding to his inverters for the agreement to control the supply line of gas.

His agreement with Trump at the Helsinki Conference forged their partnership.

Despite Russian assistance Trump was unable to secure Ukrainian support and failed to be re-elected.

This is why Putin is doubling down, he’s trying to save face and give his oligarchy consolation for the failed plans.
