Ugh. I work in food service and I am not looking forward to being a vaccine bouncer. I’m hoping my managers will take this on but doubtful.
I ask this as someone who is fully vaccinated… for anywhere allowing “vaccine or negative test,” I’m assuming this takes away the negative test option?
Well… This should make it easier to find a bench press on a Monday after work.
Can anyone explain why the Convention Centers are somehow exempt? A convention brings folks from all over the globe into 1 building and a Boston convention first spread covid around the country when the pandemic started…
My first thought was good, but as a service worker I’m absolutely dreading this. I work in a hotel and get enough shit from guests who don’t want to wear a mask when I tell them about the mandate, telling them they need a vax card to get into a bar/restaurant is going to be an even bigger shit show.
I believe the athletes are exempt from this requirement, I guess they have better anti bodies than non athletes?
maybe i’m pandemic fatigued but this seems nearly useless to wait until january 15th to implement. should have been done sooner.
Just went to a Celtics game where they “require proof of vaccination.”
It was literally 2 ppl in the stairwell asking for ppl to have their Vax Cards and IDs out. And they were “checking” like every 10th person but not really even checking.
So it’s certainly not a real check.
[“While Boston announced a vaccine mandate for indoor entertainment venues to begin next month, the mayor’s office says all professional athletes are exempt, meaning it won’t have any impact on either the Celtics or Bruins.”](https://twitter.com/timbontemps/status/1472978985239945220?s=21)
When are people going to realize that these mandates always have a selective skew towards classism? Money first, always. Why are multi-millionaire athletes permitted to play in a Boston “entertainment venue” without proof of vaccination, but the fans can’t enter without proof? This goes back to the same problem where certain politicians are caught not following their own mandates; waitstaff having to be masked entire shifts while patrons don’t have to be. This vaccine mandate is only going to exacerbate that divide, in my opinion, especially when you consider the racial divide between who’s vaccinated or not. I have a feeling we will be seeing less minority patrons at these places. Boston (Suffolk county) will become a lot more White and Asian in the affected businesses starting January 15th. Congrats, everyone.
The NBC Boston article on this said that Cambridge, Somerville, Salem, Arlington, and Brookline are implementing “similar measures.” Anyone know anything about this? Will it all be the same app? Hopefully.
Love the exemptions for performers and professional athletes. Let’s protect the pockets of the rich folks…we can’t be silly.
Unless you are a millionaire NBA player, then you can be unvaccinated and play indoors.
It says fitness…does that mean they can finally drop the mask mandate? It’s been killing gyms….
In March it applies to age 5 and up. So what are they going to do then? Kids don’t have id’s to match to cards. I find this tremendous overreach for kids. For adults sure, but kids? Nope.
Everything now is theater. This is the equivalent of taking your shoes off at the airport now. The ship has sailed. You are either going to get covid and survive or get it and die. Time for us all to move on and accept this. Everything that is done now is just knee jerk reactions.
For TD Garden…visiting players can still be unvaxed for NBA and NHL and play. We can bend the rules any which way. So lets bend them for the mask mandate?
Gyms and restaurants in the suburbs just got a huge boost in revenue. Dedham’s Legacy Place is going to be even more packed than it already was.
I’m fully vaccinated with booster… this is crazy at this point. I am pretty sure everyone is so pandemic fatigued that 90% dont give a shit anymore. Lets just go back to normal now please.
What is the exit criteria here? Just indefinite emergency powers without making any new laws? Cool.
I cant read the article, as it’s buried beneath more click bait bullshit popup ads than a sketchy porn website from 2004.
But this is going to be awkward to require customers to be vaccinated, when I know a lot of bartenders, servers, and BOH staff who are not vaccinated…
So does that mean they’re dropping the mask mandate inside these venues? There should not be both a vaccination and a mask mandate.
The people who are not vaccinated are not going to get vaccinated because you put another restriction on the already vaccinated. This is such a debacle.
So, if everyone within a business/restaurant is vaccinated, does that mean we can get rid of the goddamn mask mandates and socialize like normal humans?
A 2k likes post showing up on the home page. Makes you wonder how these get picked up.
So every time I enter the gym I need to show my vaccine card and ID? And then I need to keep my mask on?
Besides being vindictive, what is the point of not allowing people with a recent negative test?
They should also mandate people to hit the gym 3x a week and stop eating garbage but who’s ready for that convo?
This should definitely have a positive effect on the economy and also stop covid /s
We have to protect the protected from the unprotected or the protected wont be protected from the unprotected…?
Does “fully vaccinated” mean 1 shot of the J&J?
If you think the government cares about your health just try to think critically here. This isn’t about Covid. The freaking Bruins and Celtics are except for crying out loud. Just think outside the box.
I’ll probably get down voted but Pls someone help me understand this. For the record I am vaccinated and plan to get the booster, I am not anti-vax. But I really don’t understand the thought process about vaccine mandates. People can still get Covid with a vaccine. I’ve had 5 friends and family members test positive for Covid over the last 2 months and they all were vaccinated. I do believe that having the vaccine helped they have somewhat mild symptoms but they could have still brought it into restaurants, etc. if they didn’t know they had it. How is that different then an unvaccinated person having Covid? From my point of view I see having the vaccine as only benefitting the person who is vaccinated and doesn’t really help anyone else around us? Idk just some thoughts I’m working through lol
Los Angeles has this policy and I’ve only ever been checked when going into music and performance venues. Never for regular restaurants and bars.
Gotta love how she’s not dropping the mask mandate 🙄
Since you can get and spread it with a vaccine, what is the point? Thinking that showing your papers is a good thing is terrifying
I’m Vaccinated with booster……people need to realize that the vaccines don’t necessarily stop the spread. It’s more to reduce how sick you get if you catch Covid.
These rules are getting ridiculous, especially for gyms. They should be encouraging people to stay in shape. People dying from covid are generally fat….why don’t they promote staying healthy?
People need to take responsibility for themselves. If they don’t want a vaccine and get sick, that’s their problem. Stop forcing all this shit on us.
Luckily I’m in the burbs and the gym lifted mask rules months ago. Boston is falling apart with all these restrictions.
Side note – my brother (full vaccine) got covid last week at the hospital while there for his daughters birth. He got really sick and monoclonal antibodies finally got it under control.
Bottom line. Vaccine is great but won’t stop spread and people can (and will) still get sick.
Elections have consequences
Good luck enforcing that
Say what you want, but states like AZ, TX and Florida have been living completely normal lives for the past 6+ months. No masks, no vaccine requirement. Their hospitals aren’t shutting down, people aren’t dying on the street. At some point we have to get our normal lives back. The fact this is being implemented 2 years into a pandemic in a city that is 75%+ vaccinated is shameful. Remember when 70% was the threshold herd immunity?
No one should be ok with this no one.
Imagine being deluded enough to think this will change anything lol
Interesting fact of the day: Cornell University is 98% vaccinated but just had 1,000 cases of COVID.
Well, there goes Boston’s economy
They tried this in NYC, and it didn’t do anything to make the city safer. All it does is exclude the unvaccinated population, which in our city is overwhelmingly BIPOC. And don’t think that this will really be catch-all. There will be fake cards, and places (depending on the neighborhood) that won’t check their customers. In every neighborhood there will be a vaxxed and unvaxxed bar/gym/restaurant, further dividing and segregating our society.
Convince, don’t coerce.
Surely the all-stick, no-carrot approach will work *this time*, right?
Fucking idiotic, and guaranteed to disproportionately affect the people and businesses who’ve already been most impacted by the pandemic. But hey at least upper-middle class white people won’t be quite so terrified of leaving their houses anymore.
Nice to see this sub reacquire its taste for boot black, tho.
I don’t understand, what will this solve? If you are vaccinated then you are protected, regardless if others are. Showing papers to go eat inside of a Chipotle seems excessive and I just don’t see the benefit in it.
The problem with this is that making counterfeit vaccination cards will now be a new cottage industry. There is currently nothing to prevent forgery of them.
