  1. More and more sorties from the Ukrainian Air Force.

Russian AA must really be depleted.
Better artillery and air cover are going to wreck the Russians going forward.

  2. This morning’s GSR. Just a few minutes of your time to be well informed as to what is going on and where from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.

Some of the headlines from this morning which caught my eye:

*U.S. President Joe Biden has called “reckless” Russia’s latest nuclear threats and warned Vladimir Putin’s regime from holding sham referenda and annexing new Ukrainian territories.

*Mykhailo Podolyak, the advisor to the head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, believes that the best response to Russian escalation on the part of the West would be to supply HIMARS, ATACMS, Abrams, and Leopards to Ukraine. Now this I can get behind 100% – this is what we need and everybody knows it.

*The Armed Forces of Ukraine eliminated about 55,510 Russian troops in Ukraine from February 24 to September 22, including 400 over the past day alone.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said this in a statement posted on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

    Also, Ukraine’s defenders destroyed 2,236 (+9) enemy tanks, 4,776 (+28) armored fighting vehicles, 1,341 (+1) artillery systems, 318 (+0) multiple launch rocket systems, 169 (+1) air defense systems, 253 (+1) warplanes, 218 (+1) helicopters, 941 (+9) operational-tactical UAVs, 240 (+1) cruise missiles, 15 (+0) warships / cutters, 3,630 (+20) trucks and tankers, and 125 (+0) pieces of specialized equipment.

A busy and productive day for our frontline heroes.

*Latvian President Egils Levits, who addressed the United Nations General Assembly on September 21, has called for establishing a special tribunal “to investigate the responsibility of the Russian state in the crime of aggression” and creating a mechanism of reparation payments to Ukraine. Be interesting to see if reparation payments will happen and if so when.

*Nearly 920 people were detained at rallies held Wednesday evening across Russian cities against partial mobilization announced by the Kremlin this morning. This is Putin’s war and more and more ordinary Russians want no part of it. Now last night on ITV Lesia Vasylenko did say it was a start but did say the protest at mobilisation but not the killing of innocent Ukrainians. She has a very valid point.

*Moldova is calling on Russia to pull its military contingent from Transnistria and destroy ammunition stored in the Kobasna depot in the said region. Not likely to happen but it shows solidarity which is great.

*A total of 215 defenders of Mariupol, who had been holding their defenses at the Azovstal steelworks, Ukraine’s last stronghold in the area, were released from Russian captivity as a result of a massive swap effort. Fantastic news.

*The Ukrainian Armed Forces have destroyed a Russian Mi-24 helicopter outside the village of Kostromka in the Kherson region. Less Russian birds in the sky always good.

*Five Ukrainian commanders released from Russian captivity, including the commander of the Azov regiment, Denys Prokopenko, his deputy, Sviatoslav Palamar, and the commander of the 36th Marine Brigade, Serhii Volynskyi, are currently in Turkey under the personal protection of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Great news – we hope they are all ok.

*EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, at a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held in the margins of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 21, called on his Chinese colleague to influence Russia to persuade it to end its aggression against Ukraine. Be nice to see this.

*Putin’s mobilization reflects Russia’s problems on battlefield – Blinken. 100%!

*Putin’s behavior only shows that his invasion is failing – Trudeau. Russian President Putin’s order for a partial military mobilization and threats to use nuclear weapons show that his invasion of Ukraine is failing. It’s obvious to all.

*Invaders using milk tankers to deliver fuel to front line in Mykolaiv region. Russian invaders seized milk tanker trucks in territorial communities in the Mykolaiv region and are using them to covertly deliver fuel to the war zone. Things are obviously going ‘according to the plan’!

*EU foreign ministers have agreed to prepare new sanctions against Russia and increase weapons supplies to Ukraine. Punish them hard.

*President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine formulated five points of Ukraine’s peace formula. The president made the statement while addressing the leaders at the UN General Assembly, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.”All five items of our formula – punishment for aggression, protection of life, restoration of security and territorial integrity, security guarantees and determination to defend oneself – this is the formula of crime and punishment, which is already well known to Russia,” he said.

Nothing to add here – very fair and straightforward.

*Lastly Patron bringing joy daily as he does so effortlessly:

As ever this is a mere snapshot of the headlines here – our sub though will no doubt have these full stories and the other important ones.

As always thoughts are with our heroes on the frontline!
