17-year-old Genevieve Beacom becomes the first woman to pitch professionally in the Australian Baseball League
Note that she’s not the first woman to play professional baseball in general because Mamie Johnson pitched in the Negro Leagues from ‘53-‘55. Still a very impressive achievement!
I remember when Artie Lange said there was no way he would strike out against a female pitcher. Fat and drugged ups as he was in his thirties and she still couldn’t strike him out. Don’t remember the girls name but she was either pitching in college or the minors then. Fifteen or so years ago.
Her top fastball speed is 80 +/-2.
This is a bit misleading. The Australian baseball league does not have a season going on this year. They officially canceled the season with some teams opting to play a few friendly exhibition games where they are using young local talent (for experience and showcasing purposes) to round out the rosters which usually would include a large amount of import players.
Hats off to her on a successful inning pitched, but no, she did not pitch professionally in the ABL. The ABL isn’t even operating this season.
It’s just like American baseball but they run the bases clockwise instead of counterclockwise.
