  1. I thought cookie was intentional, to show that Roku was still viewing his relationship with Sozin the way it was when they were children

  2. Could have changed it with literally anything else instead of blanking it out, could have been tea

  3. Generally the dialogue was recorded first, and the final animation is drawn to match the dialogue. While it’s possible this line could have been ADR, I don’t think such an animation edit would have been made here. Nickelodeon would usually catch things like this much earlier, in the script or storyboard.

There was also a DVD commentary for this episode and they probably would have mentioned it if that was the case. They usually always mention when edits are made due to Nickelodeon.

  4. Considering that this show was written for Nickelodeon and targeted to young kids, I feel that the writers wrote it to be a cookie in the first draft or storyboard or whatever. They knew mentioning “alcohol” or drinks wouldn’t fly…although to be fair the they did include “cactus juice”.

  5. Production conspiracy:

They originally wanted Roku to offer Sozin a hit of cactus juice but Nickelodeon was pushing their renewed collaboration with the sugar industry so they made Bryke put a cookie in there to enforce subliminal messaging to get kids to eat more sugary snacks.

/s I love the show and this sub can have really interesting discussions but sometimes y’all look way too deep into nothing lmao

  6. Possibly but to be honest it’d be kinda weird to change it. As far as kids are concerned it could be water or juice

  7. Because adults aren’t allowed to have cookies?

  8. I like to think that the most powerful man among the four nations offered the fire lord a cookie

Yea but it was a pot cookie

  10. Stolen from YouTube comments

  11. I thought he offered a hit from a bong. Little risky carrying it like that Roku!

  12. Maybe they enjoy some good cookies. I sure as hell do.

  13. You are not you when you are hungry.

  14. I’m assuming he was offering Sozin edibles. Edibles might’ve stopped his expansionist desires in their tracks.

  15. Well, Nickelodeon’s target audience is children, so that would make sense. It would also have made a bit more sense for him to have offered a drink in the original version, but I certainly see why it would have been altered.

  16. “Have a cookie” really does feel out of place with this entire scene. It feels to wacky and obscure to not be, but I wasn’t there in production, so yea. Lol

  17. He could say, have some tea right?

  18. The drink being cactus juice

  19. Production conspiracy theory: Roku wanted to offer Sozin a heaping bowl of Cookie Crisp TM cookie themed breakfast cereal, part of a balanced breakfast (based on nutrition and dietary servings of 2500cal and supplemental vitamins and minerals) but they backed out of the sponsorship deal midway through the negotiations and Oreo TM brand name chocolate and cream sandwich cookies didn’t get to pick up the product placement in time for the finished episode so they left the line as recorded with the generic non-brand cookie we got.

    Clearly.

  20. We need to see the original outfits planned for The Beach episode

  21. “If anyone needs me, I’ll be in the kitchen where I can…eat my cookie…in peace.”

  22. I still think of that scene everyday “ have a cookie “ 🍪

  23. I was very confused by this post, because as a kid i only watched the german dub.

They translated it as „[…] Genieß Speis und Trank“.
    “[…] enjoy food and drinks“.

Why is it a cookie in English?

  24. Wrong, the Fire Nation love their cookies.

  25. It was originally a jelly filled donut. Nothing beats a jelly filled donut.

  26. I guess everyone is forgetting that June buys everyone drinks in an episode in this same season.

They definitely had it as cookies from the start.

  28. I think OP means that they made them edit it out early in the script or storyboard.

Thanks for the explanation, I didn’t know how that works!

  29. This changes everything

  30. This picture remembered me how hot sozin is
